The history of nude photography is the history of people’s fascination with the subject. As a matter of fact, the photographic representation of the human body is the only subject that has fascinated photographers, theorists and consumers for such a long period of time – more than 150 years. No other motif runs through all phases of development in the history of photography, no other motif is present in all techniques and is discussed in the context of almost all aesthetic currents. No other subject has produced such a variety of specialties as the nude: from the ethnological interpretation of the body to the glamor shot, from nudist photography to today’s pin-up. No other photographic application has aroused as much covetousness as it has aroused official ire.
